Primary Purpose:
- Regularly facilitate small tutorial groups using AVID methodologies under the supervision of the AVID elective teacher.
- Serve as an example of a motivated, organized and successful college student.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or GED
- Current College Student (with a minimum 2.5 GPA; freshman must provide proof of enrollment and must have taken an advanced course in high school (must have a strong math and English background, evidenced by transcript)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to work well with middle school and high school students
- Ability to communicate effectively
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support
- Facilitate small group tutorials within the AVID elective class using the AVID methodologies
- Conduct tutorial sessions in all areas of mathematics
- Conduct mini-lessons in the process of writing in all subject areas, study skills, and other aspects of college preparation
- Become familiar with the materials in the AVID Curriculum Libraries
- Become familiar with the textbooks and materials used by AVID students
- Provide evaluation of tutorial session to student and AVID teacher
- Assist teacher with tutorial preparation
- Evaluate student binders, including calendars, class and textbook notes, etc
This position is part time with weekly flexible hours (20 hours or less).
